‘It’s Fast and Easy’: a Payroll Manager Talks Power and Usefulness of EWA

A Longtime Payroll Leader

Sara Albenesius is a payroll manager for Resort Lifestyle Communities (RLC) and has been with the company for 16 years. She's seen it all -- location openings, software updates, implementations -- and grown alongside the company. "I started here when I was young," she said. "I've grown up with this company and they've become like family to me."

RLC uses Paycor for payroll, and as a payroll manager, it’s a system that Sara used day-in and day-out. Running payroll is a critical arm of the business, not just cutting paychecks but ensuring timeliness and accuracy. Anything that complicates that process will be looked at with a skeptical eye.  

The RLC team considered EWA and decided to use Paycor’s built-in solution. But from a payroll perspective, Sara noticed a few issues with communication and accuracy.

Finding a True Partner

Payactiv, their previous EWA provider, was built-in to their payroll system, so the RLC team wasn’t sure if a new partner would require a painful integration. Any delays would also mean that RLC employees would be without a critical benefit. But the RLC team was shocked at how easy everything was.  

“This is the first implementation I’ve gone through where I personally don’t have any negative things to say, or had a negative experience,” Sara said. “With Tapcheck, we’ve never had a time where our problems weren’t solved, or our questions weren’t answered.

Tapcheck made sure that the RLC team was supported every step of the way – from clear onboarding directions, where to find information on Tapcheck’s employer portal, even jumping in after-hours to solve an employee emergency.  

“One night, we had an issue with an employee who really needed wages but there was a garnishment holding it up. It was after 5pm that day, but Tapcheck was able to get it solved that night. It was one of the times I realized ‘wow, we would not have gotten that service anywhere else.’ I was so appreciative, and even the employee was like, ‘I can’t believe they did this so fast.’

Accurate Wages, Happier Staff

Since switching from Payactiv, the RLC team has not only noticed a decrease in errors, but also an uptick in her staff taking advantage of the benefit.  

“Payactiv was integrated into the Paycor app, so we weren’t sure how people would respond to having to download another app. But once they connected and saw how seamless it was, we now have more employees using Tapcheck than we did with Payactiv. I think part of that is the customer service and the ease of it.”  

With Tapcheck, there are fewer discrepancies and issues. Tapcheck’s net-wages calculation means that employees’ withholdings and obligations are automatically deducted, ensuring employees aren’t left underwater on a paycheck.  

“With Payactiv, money was available but that didn’t necessarily mean that their deductions would be covered,” explained Sara. “But Tapcheck does that. And it makes my life so much easier because now I’m not worried about an employee not having enough money to cover health insurance or a garnishment. That’s already done with Tapcheck, and that’s been huge.”
